Hawaiian Ai - The Types of Hula

Hula is a beautiful dance but it takes a lot of practice to be graceful like the pros! Kana and Nemu have to practice as much as they can before the big Luau!

I don't know much about "HULA".
However, all the dress is suited for Kana. She and Nemu are so cute!

Ash, the pot-drum-thingy is called an ipu or a gourd, which is used in traditional hula. I remember in fourth grade when one of the other classes had to learn how to play the ipu! =D

Indeed, it's called an "ipu"! An "imu", for clarification, is the underground pit they use to cook pigs for the luau. :D

For more info about hula, I have an accompanying post.

Also, by request, I have some accompanying avatars for everyone to grab!

For those of you that dont know the difference between these types of hula read here.

Hula Kahiko: Ancient Hawaiian dance preformed by Hawaiians back den.

Hula 'auana: Modern hula you see today in Hawaii.

Hula Hoop: Just one hula hoop you see everyday for play.

Nemu looks SOOOO adorable with the ipu and all decked out!

Nemu would be the cuuuuutest kuuipo ever! Wow I just got this great mental image: Nemu as the kuuipo for a halau having the words "grilled cheese" in it. The halau would so win the Merrie Monarch! >_~

  • I just love this strip :D Too cute. Wonder where she learned to dance hula so quickly…
