Today's update also comes with much sadness. My comic-king (intentional pun there~!) mentor Dave Thorne passed away this weekend.

I first met Dave when he taught a non-credit cartooning class at the University of Hawaii on weekends. I had just started drawing my very first comic for the Ka Leo, CultureSHOCK!, and wanted to learn more of the basics. Dave immediately won me over with his genuine enthusiasm for the art of cartooning and effervescent personality. He opened my eyes to the larger world of comics -- not just "manga" -- and just how much thought goes into each and every panel. To this day, I still employ some of those tidbits and techniques he taught way back when.

Dave, you will be sorely missed. Thank you so much for everything. ♥
