#4 - Usagi Yojimbo
Celebrating a moment in time when we wonder where life could have taken us if we went down a different path~
Long story short: In 5th grade, I had the opportunity to buy one comic book at Jelly's: Viz's first compilation of Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind or Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo Vol. 1. Both were about the same price and I was drawn to both covers and book descriptions. I ended up buying Nausicaa and thus started my love-affair with manga and was a very early influence on my art.
Flash forward 20 years (or so). I purchased beat up copies of Usagi Yojimbo from the Friends of the Library Book Sale for cheap. I put them on the side to read later and forgot about them until last night. During my recent migraine attack, I picked up Volume 1 and started reading.
I proceeded to read Volume 1, 7, and 11. (Out of order, since 11 was titled "Seasons" and had no idea where it was supposed to fall in the series. ^^;)
Now I wonder if I had read UY from the very beginning, where would I be today?

YOU MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE!!!
(Even though the first manga inspiration you had was about giant bugs and war and stuff... ">.>) --BUT IT'S STILL KICK A**!!! X3
I'm thinking not that much. Usagi Yojimbo draws a lot from Japanese samurai movies and culture. Plus, there really isn't anything else like after you're done reading what's available.
My guess is you would have picked up Nausicaa on your next visit and got hooked on manga.
I mean, look at where you are now. You're drawing a comic about takling dogs. ;)
maybe you would be drawing awesome comics about plush puppies wait a sec-
