#17 - MBTs
MBTs are a brand of "orthopedic"-type shoes where instead of inserting arch supports and the like, the shoe forces your feet muscles to work to fix the problem. The shoe has a spongey "core" and the sole is shaped like a rocker. When walking, it's comfortable on the arch and heel, but a workout on the rest of your body.
Think of it like constantly walking on sand. That's the closest analogy I can think of.
I like these shoes -- they're comfortable to wear when walking (I don't necessarily recommend them when running because they can be heavy), improve my posture and make me much more aware of my balance.
However... just don't wear these shoes when doing errands. I sometimes forget I have them on and bend forward with heavy boxes or bags and lose all balance. (You normally use your toes to push you backwards to counter your shift in weight when you bend forward. The shoes cancel that completely. You rock forward, momentum will continue to push you forward...)
So that's what happened today. I didn't see a slight incline in front of me and my leg buckled under me and I started to fall forward with the weight of my bag. I pushed forward with my toes -- which didn't do anything -- and continued to fall forward in weird slow motion.
Scott says it looked like I was trying to swim on land.
He caught me right before I face-planted on concrete and walked away with a strawberry on my knee. T_T;
aaaand~ here's the making of!

Teehee, I just love this....
I hope your knee is okay. Do you usually work on one side of the page in your sketchbooks? (I am just curious) :D
I got some new Doc Martens a few months ago. At first the leather is kind of stiff, so if I would kneel or stoop, I would almost always fall over. >__
Just a scrape~ ^^ It stings a little when I either touch it or wash it, but it doesn't seem very deep.
I usually work on one side of the sketchbook - it's just habit... I don't like seeing my drawings underneath when scanning - especially on cheaper paper. ^^ Also, when doodling in softer pencils, the drawings would smear onto the opposite side. Only if I'm doing ink work would I use both sides.
For this book in particular, I write some of my notes on the previous page. ^^
It makes sense. I have been rethinking by usage of both sides of the page. I usually like to. However for similar reasons you have described, I think it would make more sense if I stuck to using just one side.
Those look okay, but I prefer these if I have to wear anything other than sandals or boots. They're sooooooo comfortable and my feet don't hate me anymore.
A friend also picked those up.. I haven't seen them in use here locally, but do they really work?? They kinda remind me of the 5-toe socks that were all the rage in Japan a handful of years back. XD
Well; like I say, I find them to be quite comfortable -- as close to being barefoot without actually being so. They're meant to be used as athletic "shoes", but I've had no problems using them as regular shoes. (I *do* get a lot of inquiries about them from passers-by and refer them to the website.) And, yes, they do go well with toe-socks.
Its like those $99.99 shape ups!
You said it!
