KKS Vacation Day One - Steve Lukather in Concert
Last night was Steve Lukather's birthday bash at the Roxy.
We flew in from Hawaii to LAX and headed straight there after dropping our stuff off at the hotel. Slide Away (Trevor Lukather, Luke's son) opened up for him. It was an awesome performance!
Steve's band set up was what he used for his tour. He had 6 Lukes as far as I could tell: Radiance Red with Black headstock, Dargie I, BFR, Sparkle Black, and Blue Dawn. He played them all at least once. He stuck with the Radiance Red and Dargie I most of the night though.
I was hoping to get Luke's signature on the two rear plates of my Dargie and Black Luke but no luck. Backstage was for VIP's only.
David Paich came out as well as Edward James Olmos (Commander Adama from Battlestar Galactica). It was a majorly awesome night. I just wish I had a chance to meet my hero in person. Seeing him perform live was good enough for me though.
For the first half of the set, I was right in front of the house speakers. Toward the end middle of the show it became a loud mush that was intollerable. Luke sounded way better throught the monitors on stage.
Luke was funny and had a great time with the audience. Really enjoyed his rendition of Mike Landau's "Buzzed" but I really enjoyed Luke singing his own tunes the best. He's got a great voice!
Needless to say, it was a dream come true to finally see and hear Luke with his band. It was better than I could have ever hoped. Totally enjoyed myself!
