Introducing Kana Mezurashi!

Visually, Kana looks very much Anise's opposite. She often wears "girly" clothes and most of her wardrobe consists of skirts. She's a little older and wiser, but most always follows Anise's lead. Mellow and thoughtful, Kana balances Anise in many ways. She's an avid reader and loves crafts and computers. She doesn't necessarily have to wear her glasses, but wears them out of habit.

Kana is officially Nemu's owner. She named her pluffy pup after she found him sleeping soundly in Ani's clothes drawer. (Nemu = "to sleep" in Japanese). Like Anise, Kana is unable to keep pets in her home. Despite coming from a well-to-do family, her parents are adamant against animals in the home.

Artist Notes - Kitsy: Kana was a little more of a mystery for me. She took a little longer for me to develop, but I knew right off the bat, she had to be a visual opposite of Anise. In the end, she has much more in common with my own looks around that age. ^_^

Also, Kana's last name is odd (ba-dup-ching! mezurashii ka na? = "strange/odd, isn't it?" in Japanese) to say the least, but I have personally met someone with the last name, Mezurashi, so I can actually say it's a real last name!

Artist Notes - KimonoStereo: At first I didn't really think much of the idea of giving Anise a friend. But the more Kitsy and I talked about it, the more it confirmed what Kitsy was telling me: that Anise needed someone to balance her out and to be the 'straight man' so to speak. Kana has come a long way from the original drawings Kitsy created from more than a year ago. It took a while for the name to come to us but once it did, it just stuck. It's so obvious to me NOW what Kana's role in this comic strip is, it wasn't apparent to me when we were doing the concept stage of her character. I guess every strong lead character needs a partner in crime.
