Well, I've got this friend...

This past Sunday, we had a chance to see "Wolf Children Ame & Yuki" on the big screen as part of the Hawaii International Film Festival. It came out earlier this year in Japan, but this was the US debut.

We're fans of Mamoru Hosoda's work like "Summer Wars" and "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time", so we had somewhat higher expectations. This film did not disappoint - it was just that good. I'm glad we had a chance to see it on the big screen -- because there are so many little details you'd probably miss while watching on a smaller TV screen.

Are there any movies you'd ♥ to see on the big screen? New or old? :D

Personally, I'm hoping the three Madoka Magica movies will make it to the Hawaii International Film Festival's Spring showcase. :D

    Waaaah--- new film from Mamoru Hasoda?!?! I ADORE his work! I only discovered it recently when Summer Wars had a brief run at our local independent cinema.... Which has since been bought out by a different company and does not seem to be showing quite as much interesting stuff. :'( [This is hugely annoying, as the cinema is VERY close and has a parking lot. Not to mention an /excellent/ little trattoria across the street. Hmph! Darn you, Sundance!]

    I wish I'd read this comic sooner -- its not very likely I'll find a showing of the new film in town now... and if it's anything like Summer Wars it would be better even if only on a ten foot screen....

panel 1: Anise listens to Anpan tell her all about his problems.
Anpan: Anpan gots dis friend.

panel 2: Suddenly she is surprised at what she hears.
Anpan: …dat shnores really loud at night and makes it hard to shleep.

panel 3: Then she starts getting upset as Anpan continues.
Anpan: Also hogs all da shnacks and leaves a mess everywhere… den tells Anpan to clean up… Wat Anpan gonna do about dis friend?

panel 4: Anise knows who this "Friend" is!
Anise: This "friend" of yours told me she's plotting to kick you into THE WASHING MACHINE.
