That's...pricey. Here in Indianapolis it's only $1.75 per ride -- but you don't get transfers, and the scheduling is pretty iffy. (You can also opt for an all-day pass for $3.50, but the scheduling is still iffy.)
I think it's due to the fact we're an island state and gas has to be imported. Our gas is on par with California's current gas pricing "crisis". Which then makes everything else that much more $$. TT;

The difference is Hawai'i bus system is among the best in the nation. The punch line is even at $3 that doesn't cover the total cost of running it.
