Happy Free Comic Book Day, Boy's Day/Children's Day/Tango no Sekku, and Cinco de Mayo!
Yes, it's a busy weekend -- chock-full of events! Announcements time:
May 4th is Free Comic Book Day, so I hope all of you check out your favorite comic shops and pick up something new! I have my eye on the Kaboom! Summer sampler with Peanuts, Garfield, and Adventure Time comics and more~ :D Viz also has a nice 2-sided sampler of Dragon Ball & Rurouni Kenshin, and Top Shelf has their own kids' sampler featuring Ray Friesen's "Pirate Penguin Versus Ninja Chicken" -- who incidentally is in Hawaii and will be doing a talk Saturday morning at McCully-Moiliili Library at 10:30am!
His talk will be followed by a Pen & Ink Works comic demonstration around 11am.
16 local libraries in Hawaii are participating and from what I understand, each have a different selection of books to choose from! Just remember to bring your library card to get one! Gotta get 'em all!
Also, if you want to meet up with some local storm-troopers and Jedi, you can find them stationed at various local libraries at these times!
May 5th is Children's Day/Cinco de Mayo/Tango no Sekku~!
When my younger brother and I were kids, my grandparents used to fly the koi flags/koinobori, bring out a set of boy samurai dolls, and feed us sweet and salty rice crackers/arare. What does your family do to celebrate May 5th? :D
(I should also note that we celebrate May 1st as "May Day" here in Hawaii. Lots of hula dancing and Hawaiian music to celebrate. Springtime - such a season of celebration~)
I had been doodling pictures of Nemu dressed as a fish (and Anpan as the fisherman, albeit deleted from the final image) for the past week and wanted to try out a new coloring technique. The above illo is now available as a wallpaper set and I'll also have it at TCAF next weekend as a print. :3
Speaking of TCAF!
I'll be exhibiting solo at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival in Toronto, Canada from May 11-12! The exhibitor map hasn't been confirmed yet, but I hope to see you there -- somewhere in the Reference Library~!
If there's something -specific- you'd like for me to bring (this includes books, specific pins, charms, prints, hats), let me know soon so I can make sure it's packed. I'll have a very limited number of items for sale.
